Empowering Change: An Evening with Dr. Flávia Maia, Pioneering Women's Climate School for Global Impact

  • 1219 State Street Santa Barbara, CA 93101 United States (map)

Join us for an inspiring evening with Brazilian climate leader Dr. Flávia Maia. Dr. Maia is the founder of Filha do Sol, a women-operated non-profit in Brazil working to restore climate justice through women-led nature regeneration projects in tropical settings. She has been recognized for her accomplishments as a change-maker and civic leader, and has served as a Obama Foundation Scholar and Dalai Lama Fellow. A descendant of climate migrants from the Brazilian Northeast, Dr. Maia holds a Doctorate in Urban Planning and is a certified expert in sustainability with a focus on climate resilience.

Dr. Maia will speak about launching the first Women’s Climate School in the world — a leadership school that will resource women to exponentiate their positive impact on climate. Dr. Maia is currently working with 25 women leading 17 projects impacting ten frontline communities inside the Parnaíba River Area of Environmental Protection in the Brazilian Northeast, a global climate hotspot. Women's leadership is one of the most powerful yet most undervalued ways of solving the climate crisis. Hosted by the Community Environmental Council and Telea Insights.
